Shower

shower-flikThis project has a little bit of everything.  Custom embossed field tiles are finished with a delicate celadon antique glaze. Hand-pressed rope borders with custom corners and cobalt glaze provide an eye-popping edge.  And extruded chair rails and base sections featuring a soft eggshell glaze give the space excellent horizontal definition.  It all comes together to create a vibrant shower with both practical warmth and grandeur.

The real beauty of this project lies in its details. The window panals are designed to fit pecisely in an area occupying six field tiles high and three tiles wide.  The installer loved this as he had much less cuttingto do and the end result was very clean.  The rope tiles waterfall-flik2are also created specially for this job so they do not have to be cut at the jobsite. No damage, no waste and hence no additional cost to the owner.  Custom corner pieces are part of any border I design and provide a more finished look and greater ease of installation.

This project serves to illustrate Artifacts By Design’s creative capabilities.  The archetectural molding elements used throughout this bathroom were inspired by existing moldings found in adjacent rooms of this old Vicotrian home.  Cusrom extruder dies were designed just for this project and, when it was finished, the owner got to keep them just in case he wanted to have additional tiles made in the future.  Like chairrail-flik2the cobalt rope borbers, the archetectural moldings were also painstakingly precut prior to firing.  By taking this extra step, the installer did not have to take  his heavy wetsaw to the job in the dead of winter.  This process, typicall of project development when accurate final measurements are available, enables me to create sophisticated finishing details that enhance the look of the finished room while reducing both installation time and cost.

Being fussy has its advantages.
