Raku

modpressvase-flikWelcome to the Raku section of my website.  If you are looking for information about how Raku is made or its fascinating history, you have come to the right place.  If you are interested in producing Raku in your studio or at your school, click on the tips caption to the right and check out my pearls of wisdom.  I will add new insights to the page from time to time as a way of saying thanks to all of my loyal readers who just cannot learn enough about Raku.

I have been creating Raku since I stumbled upon a workshop in 1983.  Over the years, my technique has improved, my forms have become stronger and more coherent and my understanding of the capabilities of this wonderful branch of ceramics has deepened.  Despite over a quarter-century of experience (I just love to phrase it that way), I continue to discover new avenues of expression in this adaptable medium.  Nothing compares to the velvety black of unglazed clay or bight metallic luster on a heavily reduced piece.  Combine this with intricate crackle patterns and rich hues of aqua, cobalt and jade and it is easy to see why my heart belongs to Raku.  I even enjoy the smoky aroma of pieces that have been recently fired.

celadon-flikBe sure to look in the gallery section for a nice portfolio of my work.  It contains pieces that I have produced over the last six or seven years.  If you would like to see what my work looks like in your very own home, head on over to the shopping section and grab a cart.  The nice thing about browsing here is that you do not have to worry about breaking anything and can throw things into the cart with impunity.  Feel free to add your own sound effects and enjoy the rest of your time at this site.
